iETA Founder: Jennifer Isom
“It’s all his fault,” Jennifer says, laughing.
Her son began cultivating mushrooms, strictly for research purposes, of course. #ForResearchPurposes. What began within the family soon attracted a growing circle of curious travelers.
As that informal fan base expanded, Jennifer found herself answering the same questions again and again: What should someone expect from a psychedelic experience? How should they prepare? How could they thoughtfully design their own travel agenda rather than taking a substance and hoping for the best?
The Traveler Nobody Was Serving
Those conversations revealed a traveler the emerging psychedelic industry had largely overlooked: the person exploring at home who may not want a clinical setting, an expensive retreat, or a facilitator physically beside them, but still wants credible preparation, practical education, and meaningful support.
“Not everyone can afford to go to Costa Rica just to mentally check out of Costa Rica!”Jennifer Isom
If the imbalance lives at home, Jennifer reasoned, perhaps home is where the Celebration of Self needs to begin. That insight became part of the foundation for Inner EDGE Travel Agency™, an educational ecosystem created to support the spiritual traveler before, during, and after altered-state experiences.
A Life Built Around Teaching
Jennifer’s approach did not begin with psychedelics. It was shaped through 23 years of active-duty service in the United States Air Force, where she worked across multiple mission areas involving leadership, education, communication, mentorship, and operational support.
As a Professional Military Education instructor and Military Training Leader at the United States Air Force Academy, she learned how to transform complex material into practical instruction, hold responsibility for the development of others, and create learning environments where people could become more capable and confident.
But her understanding of transformation is not grounded in credentials alone.
“My experience as a training instructor in the Air Force and my formal education both shape this work. So do the last ten years of learning how natural medicine can support my journey of shifting post-traumatic stress disorder closer to post-traumatic spiritual development™.”Jennifer Isom
That intersection of structured education and lived experience eventually became Altered States Psychedelic Edutainment™, Jennifer’s framework for blending evidence-informed learning, storytelling, creativity, and community engagement.
The Art of Stepping Back
Jennifer believes that good intentions are important, but they are not sufficient preparation for supporting someone in an altered state.
A caring friend, nurse, counselor, coach, or experienced psychedelic traveler may bring valuable skills to the room. Yet altered-state support requires its own preparation, boundaries, and understanding.
“Facilitators need to understand that supporting someone in an altered state is often about having the most indirect presence during the journey. The goal should always be to empower the traveler while protecting their journey.”Jennifer Isom
That philosophy sits at the center of the facilitator-training program offered through Inner EDGE Travel Academy™. Rather than teaching facilitators to control or direct another person’s experience, the program prepares them to create thoughtful conditions, recognize when support is needed, and understand when the most responsible action is to step back.
For Jennifer, stepping back is not passive. It is a disciplined form of holding space.
From Manuscript to Schoolhouse
The training program began years ago as a manuscript titled The Psychedelic Traveler’s Guide to the Inner EDGE. Over time, the book became something larger: a curriculum designed for people who feel called to support psychedelic travelers but understand that care and personal experience alone do not constitute adequate preparation.
Jennifer now serves as both the founder of Inner EDGE Travel Agency™ and one of the instructors preparing to teach the Inner EDGE Travel Academy™ Pilot Cohort. What is she most excited to bring into the classroom?
“All of it. I’ve been dreaming about this for quite some time. What initially began as a manuscript is now a curriculum that can help others who feel called to do this work.”Jennifer Isom
Her vision extends beyond graduating a single cohort. She hopes students leave prepared to become educators, advocates, and responsible stewards within their own communities.
“I hope students feel inspired to start their own schoolhouses,” Jennifer says. “I would love for them to become advocates for holding space for altered-state journeys and to feel more confident in understanding that stepping up sometimes looks like stepping back.”
It is a fitting philosophy for a program built around the inner edge: the place where certainty softens, curiosity takes the wheel, and meaningful change becomes possible.
